Climate Home News is calling for pitches from experienced freelance journalists with original story ideas on the future of critical minerals and raw material supply chains. They’re commissioning stories that go beyond surface-level reporting, digging into the sustainability challenges, technological innovations, global governance, and the human impact of the race to secure resources like lithium, nickel, copper, and rare earths for the clean energy transition.
Writers will be paid $0.46 per word, with most assignments capped at 800 words. Investigative and deeply reported stories can pay more, with travel costs reimbursed (if approved in advance).
What They’re Looking For:
- News and in-depth stories about sustainability in mineral supply chains.
- Tech innovations: extraction, recycling, battery advances, and traceability tools.
- Policies tackling environmental and social impacts of mining.
- How countries and communities benefit (or lose out) in the clean energy race.
- Global governance efforts, trade deals, and financial flows shaping the future of minerals.
Resources/Guides:
- Climate Home’s Clean Energy Frontier series
How To Get This Client:
Keep your pitch sharp (max 250 words) with a clear top line. Name at least 3 credible sources you’ll use, and show your experience by linking 3 published articles. International reporting experience, or a background covering climate, mining, or energy stories, will make you stand out.
⚠️ Important: They do not want generic or AI-written pitches. Make sure your idea is unique, solution-oriented, and well-researched.
