Open Secrets Magazine is calling for personal essays (1,000–2,500 words) that explore current lived experiences of food insecurity. Writers should dive deep into how hunger and financial instability shape daily life, relationships, work, health, and identity.

While priority will be given to essays discussing the loss of SNAP benefits in the U.S., stories from anywhere in the world are welcome — as long as they are original, unpublished, and authentically human (no AI-generated work).

Essays should be submitted with a short bio and a horizontal photo (or a link to an Unsplash image). Payment is $200 per accepted piece, made via Venmo, Zelle, or PayPal.
