Ereb is a community-based cross-border media project publishing stories from Europe in English, French, and Italian. Since 2021, the platform has commissioned one cross-border story each month, with each assignment produced by a reporter and photographer team.
Ereb is looking for fresh, original ideas from journalists with experience in cross-border journalism or writing long, in-depth stories.
The publication is particularly interested in stories covering:
- Climate emergency
- Migration and identities
- Social justice
Before pitching, writers should review Ereb’s previously published stories to understand the type of reporting already featured. Writers should also read the publication’s editorial principles.
How to Pitch Ereb
Pitches can be submitted at any time.
Ereb’s editors shortlist the strongest proposals and submit three pitches to the publication’s community of members. Members then decide which story will move into production.
If a pitch is not selected, it may be considered again in a later selection round if the editors believe the idea remains relevant.
Your proposal should be no more than 200 words and clearly explain:
- The location of the proposed story
- The reporting angle
- The main protagonists who would be featured
- Your native language
- Your writing language, if different
- Where you are based
- Your estimated timeline for conducting the fieldwork
Ereb Freelance Writing Rate
Ereb pays up to $918 per story, based on the original €800 maximum fee. The fee covers:
- The written reportage
- Pictures published with the story
- Travel expenses
- Accommodation costs
Photographs published by Ereb in connection with the story are considered exclusive to Ereb. The publication may grant republication rights to other media organisations through its partnerships with print media across Europe.
Pitching Tips
Focus on a genuinely cross-border story rather than a topic that only examines one location. Your proposal should show why the story matters across borders and identify the people who can bring the issue to life.
Keep the pitch within the 200-word limit and make the reporting plan specific. Strong pitches should make the location, angle, protagonists, fieldwork timeline, and relevance immediately clear.
If you have experience reporting across countries or producing long-form journalism, make that experience clear in your pitch and CV.
